JOB DESCRIPTION
Job Summary:
The Commercial Manager is responsible for securing and managing charter contracts to optimize fleet utilization and revenue generation, while also ensuring efficient, compliant, and cost-effective voyage execution. In addition, the role acts as a key liaison with investors and stakeholders, delivering transparent communications on business performance, strategic developments, and growth plans. Reporting to the Chief Commercial Officer (CCO), this cross-functional position requires a deep understanding of global shipping markets, operational logistics, and corporate finance, as well as strong analytical, negotiation, and communication skills to support both commercial success and investor confidence.
Support Fleet Operators for the day-to-day management of vessel operations, ensuring safe, timely, and cost-effective voyage execution. In close collaboration with Hanwha Shipping’s Fleet Operations team, charterers, port agents, and technical teams to monitor voyage performance, compliance with charter terms, and adherence to international maritime regulations. The role requires proactive problem-solving and effective communication to manage operational risks and optimize voyage outcomes.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
· Develop and implement vessel chartering strategies to maximize fleet utilization and profitability
· Identify, negotiate, and finalize time charter, voyage charter, and COA agreements with global clients and brokers
· Monitor freight market trends and provide commercial input for fleet deployment and portfolio planning
· Prepare charter party contracts and ensure alignment with operational and legal requirements
· In close collaboration with Hanwha Shipping’s Fleet Operations team, monitor and coordinate with shipmasters, technical teams, port agents, and cargo stakeholders to ensure timely and efficient port operations.
· Serve as the primary point of contact for shareholders, financial partners, and potential investors
· Prepare and deliver regular business updates, financial reports, and performance presentations
· Support capital raising activities, investor due diligence, and joint venture discussions
· Communicate the company’s strategic direction, market position, and long-term value to stakeholders
QUALIFICATIONS
Basic Qualifications and Skills:
· Bachelor’s degree in Maritime Studies, Business Administration, Economics, or a related field (Master’s degree preferred)
· Minimum 3 years of experience in shipping, chartering, operations, or financing
· Strong understanding of global commodity markets and shipping industry practices
· Proven negotiation skills and experience in structuring chartering contracts
· Operational knowledge of voyage planning, marine logistics, and regulatory compliance
· Excellent written and verbal communication skills in English; presentation fluency is essential
· Financial literacy and experience in interpreting business performance and investment metrics (e.g., IRR, NPV, DCF)
· Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to interface with internal teams, clients, and external investors
· High level of integrity, attention to detail, and ability to manage multiple tasks under pressure
· Proficiency in MS Office, especially Excel and PowerPoint
Work Authorization:
The ideal candidate for this role will have authorization to work in the Korea before joining Hanwha. This role will not sponsor or offer assistance with the sponsorship for work authorization in the Republic of Korea.
